ABOUT + FAQ
WHO ARE YOU?
My name is Brittany, and I'm the sole owner, founder, creator, and laborer of THE BODY COVE since 2016. I handcraft small batch raw fruit and vegetable bar soaps using the cold process method. In 2021, I left my full time job in the tech industry to pursue my business full time. My passions lie in creating natural soap, herbal medicine, gardening, and earth sustainability. I'm originally from St. Louis, MO but I currently reside in Atlanta, GA.
WHAT'S YOUR MISSION?
My mission and passion is to be a safe space for the community I serve. To create earth friendly, fresh produce based products using locally and ethically sourced ingredients; emphasis on those who suffer from troubled skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, skin sensitivities, skin allergies + chronic ailments.
WHAT IS COLD PROCESS SOAP?
Cold process soap is created by mixing an alkali substance with water and blending it with fatty oils like olive oil + coconut oil to create a hard bar with a natural lather. The liquid batter is poured into molds and set for 24-48 hours before cutting into bars. The bars are set aside to "cure" for 4-6 weeks before use, as this time allows for them to become firm, gentle, moisturizing, and long lasting.
WHAT MAKES YOUR SOAP DIFFERENT THAN STORE BOUGHT SOAP?
Store bought soap is not real soap. It is comprised of artificial hardeners, fragrance, detergents, foaming agents and is legally considered a "cosmetic product." According to FDA labeling guidelines, if the product is not comprised of natural fats and alkali, you are not legally allowed to use the term "soap" on the label. This is why you see terms like "body bar" or "body wash."
THE BODY COVE bars are true soap, and contain organic fruit, vegetables, raw + unrefined oils, butters + essential oils, ONLY. These ingredients help your skin retain it's natural moisture, and your skin is soft and supple out of the shower. Not dry, cracked, or covered with residue.
WHAT'S THE POINT OF FRUITS + VEGETABLES?
The natural sugars in fruit + vegetables help to create an abundant, creamy lather and also provide vitamins + minerals that skin can absorb. They are also very moisturizing. Benefits of produce can be found in the soap descriptions.
DO YOU USE PALM OIL?
No. The overuse of palm oil in the food + cosmetic industry has contributed to many environmental problems like deforestation and the removal of indigenous peoples + animals from their natural habitats. I choose not to contribute to that.
DO YOU USE ARTIFICIAL FRAGRANCE IN YOUR SOAP?
No. I blend therapeutic grade essential oils from bark and flowers for scent. Artificial fragrances do not produce therapeutic effects, and are known to cause headaches + discomfort in some. They are also full of toxins and are terrible for vaginal health.
ARE YOUR SOAPS VEGAN?
The majority of our soaps are plant based with the exception of the following bars:
Raw Carrot + Honey
Red Clover Honey + Avocado Shampoo
Cocoa Honey Goat Milk
